Autodesk Maya is the industry standard software used to make 3D graphics and animations by using a simple direct interface. Maya is an end-to-end 3D solution used by leading visual effects professionals and studios. It enables visual effects, artists, modelers and animators to imagine, design and create high-quality content for film and TV, games and advertising. Maya software offers 3D animation, modeling, simulation and rendering.

Maya is quite an old program, but the advantage of Maya is that it’s really easy to expand and it’s infinitely customizable. Because of that, Maya is predominantly used in movie industry. So if you want to get into effects or post-production, Maya is the right choice. You can create custom plugins, using C++ and MEL.

When subscribing to Maya, you have the flexibility to select the subscription term that best suits your needs whether you need access for a month, quarter or year. Subscribing Maya is a cost-effective choice for freelance artists, startup and independent studios that need the flexibility to ramp up and down quickly and since Maya is subscription-based you always have the latest and greatest tools at your fingertips.

What’s new in version 2025:

  • Animation enhancements: Redesigned Dope Sheet Editor for managing large-scale animation changes effectively; create sets of commonly used animation controls for easy switching. New Deformer Manager to access and manage deformers and topology modifiers quickly in the attribute editor. New Motion Trail Editor – faster motion trail tools with different draw styles and modes in a new single location.
  • Modeling enhancements: Introduced the Smart Extrude tool from 3ds Max for flexible and predictable extrusions. Bevel node can filter input edges in multiple ways and now works with Boolean objects.
  • Simulation enhancements: Bifrost Ocean Simulation System (BOSS) is integrated into the Bifrost graph with updated modular design supporting 2D foam simulations and geometry displacement for waves. Liquid Meshing tools – modular compound designed to work with imported Bifrost liquids in Maya.
  • Look Dev X integration with Open USD: Support for native Material X data model, enabling import, export, and editing of Material X files directly in Maya.
  • Open USD integration improvements: Ability to load or unload multiple prims simultaneously and use the universal manipulator for prim manipulation.
  • Arnold GPU renderer overhaul: Important improvements in startup time and rendering speed.
