VDC

VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) is an outcome-based technology used to create digital models of construction sites and buildings for use by the AEC industry. It uses information from the 3D BIM model and other schedules to digitally plan out all aspects of a construction project such as cost management, schedule management, risk management and site safety and logistics planning. VDC goes beyond 3D BIM and it actually represents “BIM to field”.

VDC involves the use of Digital Twin technology. A digital twin is a digital or virtual copy of physical objects. The term was originally coined by Grieves in 2002, for manufacturing industry. In VDC, digital twin means building twice (first virtual, then real) to fully simulate design and construction in a virtual environment first prior to actual execution on site. The process includes systematically modeling what is to be built, rehearsing what is to be built, and building what was modeled and rehearsed.
