What’s new in version 2022:

Maya 2022 helps artists work more efficiently and collaboratively. It features the arrival of the USD plug-in for Maya, substantial updates to animation, rigging, and modeling tools in Maya, new support for Python 3, new plug-ins from Bifrost and MtoA…

Seamless USD (Pixar’s open-source Universal Scene Description) integration

  • Load and edit massive data sets at lightning speed.
  • Import and export USD data, quickly and easily.
  • See USD natively alongside Maya data in the Viewport.
  • Work with USD data in common editors like the Outliner and Attribute Editor.
  • Manage a USD Stage’s complex LayerStack using the new Layer Editor.

Python 3

  • Now the default on all platforms.

Powerful animation tools

  • New Ghosting Editor. See animation spacing over time.
  • Cached Playback. Work faster with full Cached Playback support in the Time Editor.
  • Additive animation clips. Mix clips together seamlessly in the Time Editor.
  • Peak Removal filter. Clean up spikes and peaks in your animation curves.
  • Smooth (Gaussian) filter. Gain more control over range and width of blur effects.
  • New Auto Tangent types. Get more predictable results with new Auto Tangent options.

Modern rigging tools

  • Component Tags. Store named sets of components on a shape node.
  • Component Tags. Reduce the nodes and connections needed for deformation.
  • Deformer Falloffs. Share and reuse defined falloffs in a topologically independent way.
  • Solidify deformer. Define areas of geometry to appear solid when deformed.
  • Skin binding. Use the Proximity Wrap deformer to bind meshes to skeletons.

Community-inspired modeling tools

  • Sweep mesh. Generate polygon geometry from NURBS and Bezier curves in one click.
  • Game Vertex Count plugin. Accurately estimate how assets impact in-game vertex count.
  • Create VR. Explore form and shape while fully immersed in VR.
