Version 2023 updates (changelog)

2023.2 Update

  • New Commander. The Commander has been redesigned.
  • Improvements to modeling. New Symmetry Object options. New modeling tool Thicken Object.
  • Improvements to Node Editor and nodes.
  • Improvements to Pyro.

2023.1 Update

  • Simulate fire and smoke. Added Pyro, a new GPU/CPU based gaseous fluid simulation system.
  • Improved Redshift integration. New native Redshift camera.
  • Improved global symmetry system. Support for radial symmetry. Improved Close Polygon Hole tool, Iron tool, Flatten tool.

What’s new in version 2023:

  • Changed version numbering system. Introduced Autodesk-style yearly naming scheme, there is no R (release) or S (subscription) version. Ideally this was supposed to be R27, but it’s now just Cinema 4D 2023.
  • New global symmetry system for modeling. Perform mirrored changes on the model during polygonal modelling and sculpting.
  • Unified simulation. New features: soft bodies, mixed animation, stickiness option for simulated objects, etc.
  • Redshift improvements. Rounded corner feature for Redshift CPU.
  • Support for OpenColorIO (OCIO). Native implementation of the color management standard OpenColorIO. Unified color management pipeline across all Maxon software.
  • ZBrush integration. Improved the GoZ bridge to easily transfer data between Cinema 4D and ZBrush. ZBrush is a digital sculpting software acquired by Maxon in January 2022.
  • Asset Browser improvements. Watch Folders allow linking Asset Browser to any folder.
  • Discontinued perpetual licenses. Updates are available only to users via subscription to either Cinema 4D or Maxon One.
