COINS Auto-Section Box for Revit is a free add-in that improves Revit‘s built-in function Selection Box. It saves time when modeling and communicating.
COINS Auto-Section Box tool enables you to quickly generate both temporary and permanent views, ready for immediate model analysis or incorporation into construction documentation. It’s particularly useful in large and complex models as it supports elements from linked models.
Although Revit added built-in support for creating section boxes from elements a long time ago (in version 2016), the COINS Auto-Section Box still improves on this with the additional time-saving features.
Features:
- Automatically create section boxes around selected elements or groups of elements. It also works with elements in linked files.
- Special handling of grids, section lines, elevation markers, levels, scope boxes, dimensions, and tags.
- Option to create new views.
- Toggle the section box on and off to gain a better understanding of the selection within the context of the whole model.
- Option to arrange the original selection view and the 3D view side-by-side.
- Align section box to walls, members, or other line-based geometry.
- Compare and contrast views immediately.
- Create auto-section boxes directly from datums and scope boxes.
- Understand a 3D auto-section box in the context of the whole model.
Typical workflow:
While in any model view (plan, reflected, elevation, section, detail, 3D, etc) select or window the elements to create the section box around, and run the Auto-Section Box tool from the ribbon. Alternatively, start the Auto-Section Box tool from the ribbon and then select or window elements to create a section box around.
