Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard vector drawing application used to create scalable vector artwork for both print and web. The advantage of these vector graphics is that they can be edited without limitation or loss of quality. It is made up of paths instead of pixels.
The biggest difference between Illustrator and Photoshop is that Illustrator is more often used for vector work even though you can put vectors in Photoshop now, but Photoshop doesn’t have anywhere near the drawing capabilities of Illustrator.
You can use Illustrator to design objects going from simple icons to logos, maps, and more complex illustrations going from your ideas on paper to finished digital work of art. The drawing tools allow you to easily create and edit shapes, add patterns or special effects and if you’re already familiar with other Adobe you will recognize the intuitive user interface. You can input your designs into other Adobe programs like Photoshop for use with Smart Filters or InDesign for print production and digital magazines.
Illustrator has versions for desktop and for the iPad.

Version 28.3:
- Dimension tool: Allows easy measurement and plotting of dimensions (distance, angle, and radius) within your artwork with customization options.
- Enhanced Retype: Distinct Match Font and Edit Text functionalities for identifying and editing text within images and outlined text.
- Pinnable Contextual Task Bar: Provides instant access to relevant tools and actions, significantly speeding up creative workflows.
- Other improvements: Includes a refined color scheme for patterns, an enclosed mode for object selection, ease of formatting fonts using keyboard shortcuts, and no default text hyphenation in new documents.
What’s new in version CC 2024 V28:
- Text to Vector graphic. Write a prompt and AI will generate a vector graphic. Cycle through the variations. Choose the type between subject, scene, icon, or pattern. Choose the existing graphic to match the style. Adjust the level of detail.
- Retype (Beta). This feature identifies the raster text and converts it into editable text with the same or similar font.
- Make Mockup (Beta): Generate a mesh from a vector graphic. This feature is similar to how you map graphics to 3D objects.
- Smooth Slider: Use Smooth option and a slider to smooth your paths gradually.
- Shareable PDF links: Create a cloud link to share a PDF file for review.
