Autodesk Vault is a product data management (PDM) system for centralized management of technical documentation; it integrates with Autodesk design tools. Vault streamlines engineering process by connecting designers, engineers, manufacturers and marketing people. PDM is a strategy/solution for managing product-related information and engineering processes, in a single spot.
Autodesk Vault is data management tool that allows you to transform and accelerate your entire manufacturing process. It enables the secure and coordinated exchange of your idea throughout its evolution. Decisions get documented, recorded and stored in the central location. The Bill of Materials can get updated in real time, so that management has an accurate idea of costs. Vault helps you get your products to market more quickly without losing the integrity of your creative vision.
Designers start to create and engineers can see the ideas already. They can start to investigate tolerances or materials performance from the same data. And when the design changes that decision gets processed and documented. And the engineering drawings get updated as well and tooling and simulation and visualization. Autodesk Vault becomes the single source of all design information. So all that back and forth between design and engineering that once took weeks or months is now happening in real time. It doesn’t even matter if they sit next to each other or on different continents. Designers start to think and anticipate like engineers and vice versa. And even within the engineering department, the electrical team and the mechanical team can work on different aspects of the project at the same time.
Autodesk Vault is used by thousands of consumer product, industrial machinery, building product and automotive companies. Vault Basic is part of Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection, used for product design, manufacturing and factory layout.
Autodesk Vault is a suite of products that includes:
- Vault Basic,
- Vault Workgroup,
- Vault Professional,
- Vault Office (compatible with Vault Professional or Vault Workgroup).

About Autodesk
Autodesk is a pioneer in 3D design, engineering and digital entertainment software. Though best known for its flagship product, AutoCAD, it has developed a vast range of software for the design, engineering and entertainment industries.
Autodesk was founded in 1982 by John Walker and 12 other like-minded individuals. The company launched their first original product AutoCAD that same year. Autodesk has since expanded upon a number of non AutoCAD-based products as well, including parametric BIM application Revit and 3D CAD modelling software Inventor. In recent years, Autodesk has made the move towards mobile and cloud-based applications including Fusion 360 and AutoCAD 360. Autodesk has expanded its presence in the maker community with acquisitions like Instructables and Pixlr.
Autodesk is more than just its products or its acquisitions. It had an impact on everything from education to the job sector and even on business sustainability and will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future.
