CSiXRevit for Revit is a plugin that enables bi-directional data transfer between Revit and CSI (Computers and Structures, Inc.) software products SAP2000, ETABS, and SAFE. This plugin gives users full control over which model data is transferred and how it maps to equivalent objects in either software. CSiXRevit supports four main workflows: creating or updating CSI Software models from Revit and vice versa.
Intermediate data exchange. All CSI products use the same intermediate data exchange file (.exr) to control model data exchange. CSiXRevit supports both direct and parametric section mapping for structural modeling. Structural modeling can be done in ETABS, SAP2000, or SAFE, or in Autodesk Revit, and then synchronized later. CSiXRevit allows detailed reinforcement to be imported directly from ETABS and SAFE into Revit.
CSiXRevit for Revit integration. CSiXRevit for Revit is a plugin that integrates Revit with supported CSI products: SAP2000, ETABS, and SAFE. The recommended build of Autodesk Revit for use with CSiXRevit can be found via the About menu command in CSiXRevit; if using other builds of Revit, it’s essential to carefully check the results.
CSiXRevit for Revit plans. CSiXRevit requires its own license to operate. To evaluate CSiXRevit, you can request a trial version, which is limited to 30 days and a single machine, and cannot be used for commercial purposes. CSiXRevit installation requires Autodesk Revit and can optionally be installed alongside ETABS, SAP2000, or SAFE. Exported data transfer files (.exr) can be moved between machines for use in CSI software.
Summary. CSiXRevit enhances data transfer between Revit and structural design software developed by Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI): SAP2000, ETABS, and SAFE, using a standardized .exr file for reliable data exchange. Connecting CSI software to Revit integrates the strengths of structural analysis and design with modeling and documentation strengths of BIM software.
Typical workflow
- Export from Revit. CSiXRevit exports only analytical objects from the Revit project, and Revit analytical elements should be correctly connected. Select and export the analytical elements from Revit to generate an .exr file.
- Import into ETABS. Import the .exr file into ETABS, configuring levels, materials, and family types as needed.
- Update Revit model. Modify the model in ETABS, export the updated .exr file, and import it back into Revit to synchronize changes.
