IFC Exporter for Revit is an add-in that improves the standard function for exporting IFC files. The application is installed as an add-in, but it doesn’t appear in the “Add-Ins” tab. Instead, it completely replaces the built-in IFC toolkit and is accordingly called through R – Export – IFC.

IFC is Industry Foundation Classes file format built for the AEC industry by buildingSMART, formerly known as the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI). IFC file format enables you to open a model that has been saved in a later version of Revit, or to open a model created in other BIM software.

If you open the settings of the add-in (Modify Setup), you can find some adjustments not included in the standard interface. For example, as an output format, you can select IFC4 (formally known as IFC 2×4), which is not even supported by most IFC viewers. The add-in allows you to export not only the geometry from the model, but also all linked files as separate IFC models. This possibility is very useful, especially when you need to export a large number of linked Revit models.

The add-in is updated regularly, improving and creating new functions. Like many other add-ins, this application can be included in Revit Deployment so that all employees immediately have the correct export of IFC.
