SketchUp Make is a free and easy-to-use 3D drawing, design, and rendering program. It is the inexpensive 3D modeling toolkit for quickly visualizing your designs. The SketchUp is suitable for a wide variety of fields: architectural design, landscaping, engineering, and even video game design.
There is an open source library called 3D Warehouse where anyone can download and upload 3D models created in SketchUp. Also, there are a lot of plugins for SketchUp that extend its functionality.
Using SketchUp you can draw in 2D and 3D space, create and apply materials, apply textures, organize complex drawings with groups and layers, work with reusable components (including third-party objects from the 3D Warehouse), apply styles and shadows, render drawings, and create simple animations for presentation. You can import AutoCAD file to develop a floor plan, build the walls, insert doors and windows.
Google bought the rights to the program in 2006, attracted by module for integration with the Google Earth. Thanks to technology StreetView, Google lost the need for this kind of visualization and decided to sell the program to the company Trimble Navigation in 2012.
There is the paid version of the program, SketchUp Pro, with additional functionality but the core features are identical.
