Topo From Lines for Revit allows you to create a toposurface from contour lines – set of model lines or a CAD import/link. It creates topo-points on the selected curves to allow the designer to build contour lines instead of placing points individually.

The current Revit functionality allows you to create a toposurface only from selected points, which means you can’t create a toposurface from contour lines. Topo From Lines for Revit brings this functionality to Revit so you can create a toposurface by selecting contour lines from DWG files. Also it allows updating the toposurface to add lines or if the lines are modified.

Note: Starting with Revit 2022, Topo From Lines for Revit is part of Boost Your BIM Terrific Tools for Revit.

Typical workflow:

  1. Create lines at various heights in the Autodesk Revit model or import/link a DWG file containing curve/polyline data.
  2. Run the command.
  3. Select lines or DWG.
  4. The toposurface is created by placing 50 equally spaced toposurface boundary points along each line.
  5. If the model lines are modified after the toposurface has been created, the Update command allows you to select a modified line and the toposurface and the tool will then update the toposurface geometry.

What’s new in version 2.0.0:

  • Support Autodesk Revit 2021.

About Boost Your BIM

Harry Mattison, the founder of Boost Your BIM, began his Revit journey began in 1998, several months before the release of Revit 1.0. Back then the company was known as Charles River Software and for several years Harry was as the Quality Assurance Manager for Revit Architecture and Revit Structure. In 2008 Harry began a software development position in the API group where he spent 4 years implementing, designing, and testing new API functionality (such as the Family Editor API, Conceptual Massing API, Analysis Visualization Framework, Dynamic Model Update, View API, and much more), teaching other Autodesk employees about the API, working with the writers for the API documentation, writing API samples, and more.

Not every Revit user will code their own Revit API applications, but hopefully Boost Your BIM will open your eyes to the potential of the Revit API and how it can make Revit better.
