AI’s true value lies in its ability to connect dots across vast data sources, which may be challenging for humans to achieve.

Current impact. The current design process is time-consuming and labor-intensive, often taking a year for a single structure. AI can significantly speed up the design process and improve outcomes. This accelerated process helps in quickly moving projects from concept to construction.

AI in architecture is often seen as merely generating image renders. However, these are static and only a small part of the design process. The true potential of AI goes beyond this, involving the quick creation of the most optimal designs and editable 3D models.

AI can calculate carbon emissions, helping designs to be net-zero, and maximize daylight usage and furniture distribution, significantly reducing the design time from months to days. AI enhances the design process by integrating cost and environmental considerations from the very beginning. AI tools and algorithms can help architects to create more sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly buildings while meeting client requirements and regulatory standards.

Future impact. In the future, AI will handle tasks such as permits, zoning, structural analysis, and natural disaster forecasting. While AI will not replace architects and engineers, it will become a valuable tool, impacting all aspects of their work and improving decision-making. This will allow architects to focus more on creativity and innovation by relieving them of routine tasks and complex calculations. AI lacks consciousness, human-like creativity, and emotional intelligence, which are indispensable in the design process.
