Adobe Lightroom is a photo editing software similar to Photoshop but for making minor edits of large collections of photos, and it’s also a photo organizer. Such minor edits include color-balance, color corrections, brightness, contrast, exposure, temperature, lens flare, cropping, masking, healing brush, etc. It doesn’t have pixel level control like Photoshop, but that also make it far easier to learn. Batch editing photos is the most useful feature of Lightroom. Professional photographers use it in their workflow as a photo management system for efficiently cataloging, organizing and post processing thousands of photos. When photographers come home from a shoot with a bunch of photos, Lightroom may help them to correct the photos the same way and apply quick non-destructive adjustments to many photos.

Lightroom is a “younger brother” of Photoshop. Photoshop is a full-featured app more difficult to learn. Lightroom allows photographers to edit photos without going through the steep curve of learning Photoshop. There is no Layers panel available in Lightroom. Everything that you do on the photos is adjusted right on the top. Lightroom is ideal when you’re processing lots of photos, and you’re working with raw photos. Filmstrip in Lightroom helps you to easily and smoothly flick between pictures, and check out all the pictures that I’ve imported. After you import photos into Lightroom, you can use the Library module to view and organize photos in your catalog. In Lightroom you have all the non-destructive options built-in, you can always reset to the original settings if you want as your original file is not altered.

Lightroom vs Lightroom Classic

Adobe Lightroom comes in two flavors: Lightroom and Lightroom Classic. Both applications essentially let you bring out the best in your photos, easily organize all of your photos and share them. The applications are mostly the same. The biggest difference is that the Lightroom Classic will make and store images locally while Lightroom will do it on the cloud. Also Lightroom is cross-device and there is the Adobe Lightroom app for mobile phones and iPad. Lightroom Classic is optimized for desktop, for more of a traditional photography approach, tethering your camera to the computer.

What’s new in version 6.4:
