Navisworks Simulate is a project review software that provides advanced tools for 5D simulation, analysis and quantification. You can import project schedules from planning applications (such as Microsoft Project or Primavera), which enables you to simulate and visually communicate construction schedules. Schedule, quantification, animation, and visualisation capabilities of Navisworks Simulate allows you to demonstrate design intent and simulate construction, which helps to improve insight and predictability.
Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) specialists and construction managers use Navisworks to create a multi-discipline model, integrated from architectural, structural, mechanical and civil engineering models and specialist trades. Then it can be further integrated with construction schedules for 4D simulation, enabling the project to be reviewed and analyzed by all stakeholders in both space and time. Virtual Design and Construction is becoming to AEC what digital prototyping is to the manufacturing industry.
Navisworks offers three versions: Freedom, Simulate, and Manage. Navisworks Freedom is a free viewer for navigating, measuring, and sectioning compiled models. Navisworks Simulate includes Freedom’s features plus quantity takeoff, annotations, saved viewpoints, and combined model exports. Navisworks Manage encompasses all Simulate capabilities and adds clash detection and management.
The Navisworks original developer was UK-based developer NavisWorks. However, the company was acquired by Autodesk in 2007.
Integration
Navisworks is known for supporting a wide range of file formats for import. This extensive format support allows users to integrate data from various sources and software applications. Navisworks Simulate supports over 60 different file formats, including: NWC/NWD (Navisworks Cache and Navisworks Document files), DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, IFC, 3D file formats (FBX, 3DS, and OBJ), 3DM (Rhino), SKP (SketchUp), STEP/STP, IGES/IGS. These formats cover a wide range of applications from CAD drawings and 3D models to BIM and industrial design files.
NWC file format. The NWC (Navisworks Cache) file format is a proprietary file format developed by Autodesk for use with Autodesk Navisworks software. NWC files serve as lightweight representations of the original models. These optimized NWC files can be generated directly from various design applications, like Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, MicroStation, and others, using the Navisworks NWC Export Utility, and without requiring a Navisworks license.
ACC. Navisworks Simulate integrate with the Model Coordination module of Autodesk Construction Cloud for web access to models and federated views, and models can be opened directly from coordination spaces using the Coordination Issues add-in.
